Decca Broadway proudly presents the original cast recording of WICKED, Broadway's most talked about new musical. The box office is already over $10 Million! With a score by Stephen Schwartz (Broadway's Pippin, Godspell), libretto by Winnie Holzman (TV's My So-Called Life) and based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire, the musical is a prequel to the legendary classic, THE WIZARD OF OZ. WICKED explores the early life of the witches of Oz: Glinda and Elphaba. One witch, born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED stars Tony Award® winner Kristin Chenoweth (You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown) as Glinda, Idina Menzel (Rent) as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Tony® and Oscar® Winner Joel Grey (Cabaret) as The Wizard. The Original Cast Recording -- featuring an essay by Wicked novelist Gregory Maguire, original color photos from the show and a complete libretto. | | | |

Misleading Sep 08, 2010 Just wanted to point out that the Product Description above is not entirely correct- it states that disc 2 contains eight 'never before heard' tracks, but Menzel's dance-mix version of Defying Gravity has been out for over two years now, and Kerry Ellis's amazing arrangement is on her Wicked In Rock EP which was released over a year ago!
My favorite part GONE!!! Aug 20, 2010 I love the play!! but one of my favorite parts was completely gone!! the part where they are dancing when Galinda gives Elfaba the witch hat as a joke and she ends up dancing with Elfaba and then they all start to dance with them, the start of it is shown the the camera goes down and the the rest of the scene is omited!!!!! I was VERY dissapointed!! and most of the time all you see is where the face of each actor is a big shining light so you can't see their faces. it was ok BUT NOT WORTH THE PRICE!!!!!!!!
Wicked = Wicked Awesome! Aug 15, 2010 Exceptional recording of the original cast of the hit Broadway show! Everything about this set is exceptionally handled. The special bonus recordings and variants in foreign languages are fun as well. Definitely worth it's weight in green!
One of my favorite musicals Jul 20, 2010 Wicked is one of my favorite musicals. After I saw it on stage I had to buy the cd. It's really great. If you like musicals. You will defiantly love this cd.

bubbly with excitement Jul 19, 2010 I just saw this yesterday in San Francisco, so I might not make perfect sense. Forgive me in advance. I didn't know what to expect, as I had not read the novel. I wasn't prepared to be so emotionally moved by the performance! The voices, the score, the set, the costumes were so much more....and the story. The story was written by a genius, to be sure. A story that I think we are all so familiar with, this made me feel like it was written first. The songs were a beautiful continuation of the story, leading us. Not any filler songs that could be done without. You must see this to understand the reviews.
