5The Smoothest Of All Smooth Jazz  Jan 15, 2005 By Rebecca*rhapsodyinblue*
One of the many things I love about Amazon.com is their fabulous recommendations and this CD is one of those and never did they go wrong with their endless suggestions. This CD in its entirety is simply mesmerizing with Chris Botti's smooth, elegant and evocative covers of "Indian Summer," "Back Into My Heart," "My Funny Valentine," the title track "A Thousand Kisses Deep" and my all-time favorite Bacharach/David composition "The Look Of Love" with vocals by Chantal Kreviazuk. These beautiful melodies are so intoxicating that you won't be satisfied with a single listen and it would make you want to listen over and over again.

Mr. Botti's playing is reminiscent of Chet Baker's cool, mellow and captivating style in his version of Rodgers and Hart's "My Funny Valentine." This young and gifted trumpet player is also a very talented composer and he co-wrote five of the eleven tracks in this CD, most notably "Back Into My Heart" and "Ever Since We Met."

This is my first Chris Botti CD, which was #3 on the Top Contemporary Jazz Chart in 2003, and definitely will not be the last.

5WHAT A SENSUAL AND MOVING SOUND  Dec 29, 2003
Oh my!
I had to actually stop what I was doing and just absorb every sound that was coming out of my cd player.
Chris Botti has done it again. I have yet to be disappointed with anything he has every put out and I hope I never have that sensation.
First Chris gives off some deliciously warm vibes with Indian Summer. Then he oozes sexuality with the tenderly kissed Do It In Luxury. Now Chris chimes in with his version of the Burt Bacharach classic The Look of Love. This version is sexier than Diana Krall's. Then he gently caresses the audio receptors with a sweet and loving A Thousand Kisses Deep. Now Chris (with Matthew Gerard and Bridge Benenate) puts pen to paper and writes the ever so gentle "dedication to the one I love" love song: Ever Since We Met. For a more neuvo jazzy feel, Chris swings it on Back Into My Heart. Time to slow things down just a bit with the lovely My Funny Valentine. The percussion infused The Last Three Minutes is a nice and slight change of pace. It reminds me of walking/strutting the streets while the mind goes elsewhere. If I Could requires the following: a hot cup of cappuccino, a fire in hearth and someone to cozy up to.
Chris is a seriously talented man with a great future ahead of him. A Thousand Kisses Deep is a grand look into the soul and heart of such a talented young man.

4He did it again!  Nov 05, 2003
Chris Botti has done it yet again. I didn't know if he could top his last CD "Night Sessions," but he did! The songs are typical of Botti's style. His CDs always have this mood that is a signature for him. A few of my favorites are "The Look of Love", "Indian Summer" and "Ever Since We Met". However, the entire CD is cool and I'm sure if you're a Chris Botti fan...you'll be impressed with his extreme talent. Chris Botti's music has a special touch that is easily identifiable and unique to him.

5Exceptional.......  Aug 20, 2004 By MayaLa
I must admit; I'd heard Chris Botti's music several times before in previous years and had just simply thought of it as, well....nice. 'Regrooveable' and 'Worlds Outside' fit neatly into that vague, sterile classification for me.

Then along came 'Irresistible Bliss' and I placed it in the 'not bad' category, which is a step up from nice: I was more likely to give Chris more than just an initial listen at this point.

However, when tracks like 'You Move Me,' 'Lisa,' and 'Miami Overnight' came along from the 'Night Sessions' album, I thought that he really deserved more attention from me. There was something about this release that captured my mind and made me focus on Chris' overall smoothness and skill as a musician. I began to understand that there was/is something unique about him, and that he fills shoes in the world of smooth jazz that only he can.

And now, fast-forward to 'A Thousand Kisses Deep'......
Wow, just, wow. It is with this release that I reached the realization that Chris is an exceptional musician. His treatment of the trumpet (which I hear happens to be one of the most difficult brass instruments to master)is uncanny. The sound he creates is sooooo smooth and seductive, its almost unbelieveable that it comes from a trumpet. He for all intensive purposes, has basically deleted that "brassy" quality that the trumpet is known for.

I can honestly listen to this whole album (all 11 songs), and not have to skip a track. Its that smooth. And the metaphorical icing on the cake from this cd is Chris' rendition of the classic 'My Funny Valentine.' (sigh) Its sweet simplicity with only trumpet and piano to weave a romantic tale.

It also has groovability in the forms of 'Do It In Luxury,' 'Back Into My Heart,' and 'Last Three Minutes.' These tracks will definitely get more than one listen from self-professed beat junkies (which I'm not ashamed to admit I am).

The overall feeling of this release is chill. It is definitely relaxing, and in the right situations, extremely romantic with tracks like 'The Look Of Love'(yes the old jazz standard, but with a modern funkiness), 'A Thousand Kisses Deep' (the title track, a Leonard Cohen original that Chris created a bridge for), and 'Ever Since We Met.'

Having heard this recording places his previous works in perspective; I have now grown to respect and appreciate them.

Chris has said before that he practices hours daily, and that he gets better day by day. Based upon what I've heard, I'm inclined to agree....and to anticipate his next release. ;)

5Liquid Relaxation  Jan 04, 2005 By T. Kenard
I only heard of Mr. Botti from Smoothjazz.com within the past year and was hooked immediately! I think Funny Valentine & Indian Summer were the first songs i'd heard by him, then found out he had other CD's & toured with the Almighty Sting. I am very pleased with the CD & look foward to checking out the others & future works to come. He is a great talent!
