SRV CD for the car. May 16, 2007
By Ontiniz I own many SRV CDs but needed this one to have in my car at all times. Some of his best music is on this CD and it is great to have it handy on one CD. If you own a collection of SRV music this is not really needed unless you want a travel CD like I do. I find it necessary to have one. I mourn for him every time I play this CD and find it difficult to accept the fact that we will never hear the music we could have had if he had not left us so young. And I am grateful for the the music he did leave for us to enjoy.

This is more like it! Apr 13, 2009
By Docendo Discimus Much, much better than 1995's original tepid "Greatest Hits"-album, this is a terrific introduction to the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan.
A supremely strong and unusually varied collection of songs, "The Real Deal: Greatest Hits vol. 1" brings together 16 of Stevie Ray's best tunes, smouldering slow blues, melodic, swaggering R&B, and gritty blues-rock, all of it suprebly played and arranged by one of the few latter-day blues guitarists who was NOT overly hyped!
Most of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's best songs are here, including "Pride & Joy", "Cold Shot", the sizzling high-octane blues "Texas Flood", and the rollicking "The House is Rocking", and those that aren't here are on the equally excellent volume two.
Powerful, fiery covers of Guitar Slim's "The Things That I Used To Do" and Elmore James' "The Sky Is Crying" only adds to the appeal of this fine, well-packaged compilation.
By itself, "The Real Deal vol 1" can't match the double-disc "Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan", but get this one, and volume two as well, and you'll have the second-best Stevie Ray Vaughan-collection on the market. The best one is the "SRV" box set...!

Vast improvement over the original "Greatest Hits" Mar 19, 2009
By J. Grant
"Reviews for the average Joe"
This new compilation, when purchased together with "The Real Deal, Vol.2", provides newcomers to SRV a nice overview of his all too brief career. There was a "Greatest Hits" album released in 1995 which is way inferior to this release. Personally, I'm not a fan of greatest hits or best of compilations, and usually will only purchase them if I don't know much about the artist and want to get a sample of their music. So, if you aren't familiar with Stevie or are on a budget, by all means get this CD as every song on it is essential. But after hearing this, you will want to go out and get everything he ever recorded. I have all of his discs and couldn't imagine being without any of them. To me, SRV was the greatest guitar player to have ever graced us with his presence.

RAVE ON! Mar 21, 2011
By Jukebox Dave STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN & DOUBLE TROUBLE-THE REAL DEAL/GREATEST HITS: Stevie "Rave On" was the celebrated six stringer who almost single-handedly spearheaded a blooze-rock revival in the 80s, assisted by older bro JIMMIE's band THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS and smart soulman ROBERT CRAY. In sharp contrast to 1995's mediocre career roundup GREATEST HITS, THE REAL DEAL is an aptly named package worthy of the smokin' legacy. Standout ripsnorters spotlighted here include originals PRIDE AND JOY and THE HOUSE IS ROCKIN', even as he carves out a softer side via "cool down" covers of TIN PAN ALLEY and ELMORE JAMES' THE SKY IS CRYING. Obvious inspiration JIMI HENDRIX's signature jam VOODOO CHILE sounds fresh and vibrant all over again in VAUGHAN's capable mitts. Like the Seattle slasher, SRV crashed and burned far too early, but the rich catalogue he left behind will serve as a template for generations of guitar slingers to come.
RATING: FIVE COLD SHOTS

Stevie Ray Vaughan "Greatest Hits" Vol.1 "SRV - the Guitar Master"!!!!! Mar 02, 2009
By Gary Covington
"Southern Rocker"
Excellent from beginning to end!!! It contains 16 great songs, including a live recording from Carnegie Hall - "The Sky is Crying". This volume contains many of his hits, such as "Pride & Joy", "Mary had a Little Lamb", "Texas Flood", "Couldn't Stand the Weather", "Tin Pan Alley", "The House is Rockin", and many others. This is a great album cd, and I recommend it. Thanks!!!
