Da Funk Nov 25, 2003
By Erica Anderson I remember first seeing the music videos for "Da Funk" and "Around the World" on MTV (believe it or not) several years ago and just being completely blown away by the infectious dance beats. "Around the World" in particular really grabbed me by the jugular. It is by far the catchiest dance song I have heard in the past decade, next to Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head". The bass-heavy beat is incredible. Listening to "Around the World" brings back memories of me dancing (drunkenly) to this song in the nightclubs back in my college days. "Da Funk" was and still is equally cool in its own right. It is extremely catchy. I just love the synthesized beats. Just like "Around the World", "Da Funk" has that incredible deep bass hook that gets you on the dancefloor. As much as I love Daft Punk's follow up "Discovery", "Homework" has to be my favorite of the two cds. Granted that "Homework" lacks the warmth of "Discovery", "Homework" has a raw, live feel that its predecessor lacked. "Revolution 909" reminds me of something I have heard during my journeys to Chicago back in the day and my friends and I would be cruising to our favorite nightclub with the radio cranked up, and this song would be on the airwaves (more like a song with the same beat). I also love the shimmering techno track "Indo Silver Club" as well. Despite being seven years old, "Homework" still holds up to this very day which is not an easy task to do because trends comes and goes in dance music but "Homework" is an exception to that rule and it still sounds fresh and new to me.

Still my favorite album Jul 29, 2000
By Kyle Lumpkin 4 years ago, I was walking around the campus of Ohio State University and I went into a record shop. In the little headphones on the wall, this album was playing. I liked it and so I bought it. I play it at a few parties and everybody starts to like it--people are playing it at parties from their own copy. Now, 4 years later, I've listened to a lot of hardcore dance music and Daft Punk is still way up on top. Reviews describe it as low-tech but good. I describe it as a record that had more thought put into it than 99% of others I've heard. It's intense. I recommend it all the time. Listen close, you'll probably hear it mixed in to the music at the techno clubs where you live. "Oh Yeah" is the worst song I've ever heard though. -Kyle6036@aol.com

Picture the scenario.....you're having a party, u need a cd that can a)serve as a backdrop for interesting convo and b)keep butts bouncin til da break'o dawn. Enter Daft Punk's Homework! These songs are built straight for the dancefloor. the beats are so basicially-infectious and the groves so tight, toes and feet cant help but to wiggle to them. Although not every track is a gem,(be wary of "Oh Yeah", "Rock N roll" and Rollin N Scratchin[unless u like german hardcore techno!]), the cd is a virtual built in rave! Stand-out traks for most bumpage are "indo silver club", "revolution 909", my personal fave- "hi-fidelity" and of course "da funk". All other cuts are treasures too, but hey, a review can only be so long. Overall, if u want your party to groove, put daft punk on and press "repeat" on your cd player. A.N.

DAFT PUNK ROCKS! Jul 20, 2004 When I bought this album I listened to it and was amazed. I love the songs on this album. Here is a list on a scale 1 to 10.Daftendirekt-10/10 (Solid beginning, nice beat.) WDPK 83.7 FM- 8/10 (Sounds good, a little short but good.) Revolution 909- 10/10 (Awesome song. Like the beat.) Da Funk- 10/10 (Excellent. This is probably the best.) Phoenix- 9/10 (I like it, but it can't beat the others.) Fresh- 9/10 (Like Phoenix, good but doesn't get 10.) Around the World-10/10 (One of the best, it gets stuck in my head all the time, even after not listening to it for awhile, iy always finds it's way back inside my head.) Rollin' & Scratchin'-8/10 (Some people say this one bites the dust, but I say it's only for the true DJ. I like the scratching, but this one is a little too long. Solid 8.) Teachers- 6/10 (It was hard to rate this one. After listening to it over and over, I decided that the background sounds together deserved a 9, but the weird voices drops it 3. Still trying to get used to this one.) High Fidelity- 8/10 (I liked this one, but I don't know what it is, this is just a little bit less than the rest.) Rock & Roll- 8/10 (This is another one that goes a little unliked. I would say that is because it's a little too long, and a little repeative, like Rollin' & Scratchin'. I still liked it though, but it is a little long.) Oh Yeah- 8/10 (I like the beat of this one, but those kids saying "Oh Yeah" brings it a down a couple points. I still like this one though.) Burnin'- 7/10 (I like it, but it just doesn't quite have what the others have, so I give it a 7.) Indo Silver Club- 9/10 (I love this one. Not exactly a 10, but it's close. Great for dance clubs.) Alive- 10/10 (Cool song, it sounds good too like the other 10's.) Funk Ad- 10/10 (Great way to end the album, this album starts you off with some funky ones and ends you with it too.) Overall: I really liked this album. I usually listen to this one when I'm sitting around doing nothing, or (like the album's name states) doing homework. I usually like listening to music that people dance to at clubs with some dj and techno. Two other Daft Punk Albums I would recommend which I own are Discovery and Daft Club. The overall grade for this album would be an 8.5. Most of the album is awesome but there is always those one or two songs that always have an effect on the album. This is from Daft Punk's earlier years, but I still say this one is really good.

Great, Yet... Mar 25, 2003
By ararayaya Don't get me wrong; I love Daft Punk. Daft, in my mind, are the greatest techno (or whatever the music is) artists of all time. Their debut album is fascinating, different, and original. Funky, soulful, yet... ...Repetitive? Yes, this is, by far, the most repetitive album I have ever heard. Take "Rock 'N Roll" for example. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM over an over again at a very high tempo, along with a scratching noise that gets louder and louder in fast motion. This goes on for about seven minutes. "Rollin 'N Scratchin'" is quite similar to "Rock 'N Roll", in that they have very similar names and very similar, ear-bleeding, muscle-twitching scratching effects repeating over and over again, this time for EIGHT minutes. Songs like "Daftendirekt", the funky introduction to the album, and "Around The World", are what really stand out, and who can forget "Da Funk"? But "Alive 1997" is much better than "Homework" in that it is the best live show I have ever listened to, plus, "Alive" is like a 45 minute remix of the entire "Homework" album, and trust me, the remix is awesome. But if you are sticking to repetitive analog sounds exploding over and over again, buy this album, and may I recommend Mr Oizo's "Analog Worms Attack".
