Exclusive import-only two CD compilation from the Argentina-born master of the Tango. Piazzolla, who died in 1992, took what used to be known as Argentinean Folk Music and raised it's commercial awareness, creating a world-wide insatiable appetite for Tango music. His instrument of choice was the bandoneon, which is similar to a large accordion but much more difficult to play. His compositions have become standards in Jazz and World Music, many of which are featured here. 24 tracks including 'Adios Nonino', 'Libertango', 'Muerte Del Angel', 'Luna' and others. This slimline double jewelbox comes housed in a slipcase. WEA.

5Simply the BEST for the Piazzolla neophyte!  Dec 21, 2000 By Charlie Allen
I have more than ten Piazzolla CDs and this is my favorite. It's actually the first one of his that I ever bought, and I think that this is probably the best CD that a beginner to Piazzolla and Modern Argentine Tango could buy. It has a generous sampling of the several hundred songs that Astor Piazzolla wrote in his life, and it consists mainly of live recordings, which adds to the intensity of each piece. Interestingly enough, there are nearly 200 CDs of Piazzolla music (if not more), and even the songs in the ones recorded by Piazzolla himself vary significantly from album to album. This one, however, is a real joy and will get anyone's toes tapping.

5Bravo Maestro!!  Nov 27, 2000 By Federico Golcher
Oh dear God, how to describe the music that came out of this album? Maybe we should make an exception and allow a six star rating in this case. Astor Piazzolla is for me the best composer of the 20th century and one of the best of all time. The way he can make music dance in you head and trigger emotions from deep within you is stunning. It is impossible to describe the way he puts music together into some of the most powerful music ever heard and at the same time doing it in a way tango had never been done before. Maestro Piazzolla completely changed tango into something new, something some people don't even consider tango anymore. He'll shred your soul and make you lose all hope in your life and suddenly fill you with hope and a sense of awe. Every person who take music seriously and can appreciate art must own something by Astor Piazzolla; and feel the blessing of immersing in its brilliance.

5A mixture of jazz and tango to my ear.  Aug 04, 2007 By Lawrence A. Reeves
I doubt that anyone would be disappointed with this CD. Classical and jazz enthusiasts would appreciate its quality. Anyone who has visited Argentina and witnessed the tango would be even more enthusiastic, I think. I like it!

5great  Jan 28, 2007 By bayou ben
The best album by piazzolla I have played. the violin playing by antonio agri on milonga del angel is the very best and really captures the tango. My only regret is that the album did not include oblivion.

5An awesome CD  Mar 11, 2009 By Grant Sakakihara
Simply put, I love this CD. I never really doubted that I wouldn't enjoy it though. I had heard of Astor from listening to some Nu Tango albums. A lot of people cover his compositions. Hearing these songs, many which are live (and awesome) was very enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear some tango (nuevo tango?). A+!
